Will Machu Picchu close forever?

Ever since the catastrophic landslides and floods hit Peru last February, many people have been writing us to find out if Machu Picchu or the Inca Trail will be closing permanently.

It is important to understand that a world heritage such as Machu Picchu, an ancient city built by the Inca in the 14th century will be closing in 2017. Perhaps people misunderstood the news and got a bit confused with the time when the Inca trail closed in February of this year to allow park rangers to do some work on conservation of the wildlife as well as the reconstruction of some of the infrastructure located along this ancient Incan road that leads to Machu Picchu.


The fact is that it is possible that people are confused by the changes that there has been around the rules to access Machu Picchu since the beginning of this month. According to these changes, there are now, two entrance shifts for people to visit Machu Picchu. One that starts at 6 in the morning and lasts until noon and the second one that starts at noon and finishes at five in the afternoon.
