Practice Before You Go

A great way to make sure that you have the skills needed to take down a big hog is to practice.  Some wild boar hunts require you to use a compound bow and other require a gun of some type.  Find out which type of wild boar hunting you are going to and then you can hit the range and practice.  Many ranges will rent you a gun or a bow for a small fee.  This will save you a lot of money by not having to purchase expensive equipment.  On the other hand, if you would like to purchase a bow or firearm, you can find many good deals at your local outfitter.  If you’re on a budget, you can even buy a used gun for much less.

Speak with Your Guide

If you are going on a guided wild boar hunting trip, make sure that you talk to your guide before you go.  He or she will be able to provide you with a list of things that you will need to bring.  Most guides will provide a gun or bow so you won’t need to worry about bringing them along with you on the plane.  Also, ask if the guide will provide you with accommodations.  Some guide services will have bunkhouses for those who go on hunts, while others will offer you less luxurious choices such as a tent.  Remember, the more questions you ask your guide, the better you will be prepared for your trip.

Get Your License Before You Go

Many hunting guides will ask you to purchase your hunting license before you arrive, while others will require you to get one when you land at your destination.  Depending on the location of your trip, you may have to pay several hundred dollars for the license.  This is not part of the guided trip and you will have to pay for this fee out of pocket.  But you will be in full compliance with the law which will make your hunting trip legal.

Wild boar hunting can be a very exciting experience and if you are prepared, the hunt will go well.  Remember to get a license before you go so that you can legally hunt when you arrive at your destination.  Also, make sure that you speak with you guide prior to going on the trip so that you will know what to bring and what to expect.  A few weeks before your hunt, make sure that you go to the range and practice as much as you can so that you can be ready for your big day!
